PET beverage bottles already meet the key requirements in the current debate on plastic recycling. Germany’s firmly established recycling system from manufacturing to recycling PET bottles has played a decisive role, placing the German PET market ahead of the EU plastic strategy just published. This eliminates the issue of export restrictions applicable to plastic waste via China in PET bottle disposal.

Industry still fears locational disadvantages in the medium term

German plastics packaging manufacturers consider the current economic trend at the beginning of the new year as very positive.
Around 90 percent of companies questioned rate the current economic situation as good.


The German plastics packaging industry association (IK) is taking advantage of Coastal Cleanup Day on 16 September to reiterate its clear position on marine litter.


The IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen e.V. , German Association for Plastics Packagings and Films, and Elipso, the French Plastic & Flexible Packaging Association, agreed to further develop their partnership. In early July a first workshop of the teams of both associations took place in Paris.


“Recycling capability is an important aspect of the eco-design of packaging. But eco-design is more than just design for recycling.” This was an important conclusion of the Eco-Design Forum which took place during the interpack trade fair in Düsseldorf on 5 May. The event was very well attended with almost 100 participants and was organised by the Round Table on the Eco-Design of Plastics Packaging and the IK - German Plastics Packaging Industry Association.


The ceremony for the 3rd “PackTheFuture – The Sustainable Plastic Packaging Awards”, organised by ELIPSO and IK, the trade organisations representing plastic & flexible packaging in France and Germany, has taken place in Düsseldorf at Interpack, the unmissable event for the packaging sector.


This year, ICPP International Confederation of Plastics Packaging Manufacturers is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Founded in 1997, the association was established with the aim to improve the framework of the international transport of dangerous goods in plastics containers. The activities of ICPP are focussed on regulatory aspects of the transport of dangerous goods, international standardization and environmental aspects.


Over 50 IK member companies have already been certified as part of the IK “Null Granulatverlust (Zero Pellet Loss)" initiative. Its aim is to combat marine litter – to prevent the loss of plastic pellets and their release into the environment. Following qualitative evaluation by the IK of participants' applications, it is now possible for the first time to pinpoint the main causes of pellet loss as well as to derive effective countermeasures.
